PARISH OUTREACH MINSTRIES

CHRISTMAS GIFT COLLECTION
Each November, toys and warm winter accessories (hats, caps, gloves, and scarves) are collected for all ages.  Donations are shared with the Center for Christian Action in Pocahontas, VA and the Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC) Refugee Resettlement Program in Roanoke, VA.

​FAMILY PROMISE 
Family Promise provides temporary housing and skills development to homeless families.  OLN is a host congregation 4-5 times a year for a week at a time.  Parishioners volunteer by making meals, hosting evenings and spending the night as an overnight host.  Just like having company for a week!

GIVING GARDEN
The OLN Giving Garden annually provides an average of 2500 pounds of fresh, quality produce from spring through fall to the RAM House and St. Francis House Pantry. Teams of volunteers plant, harvest and deliver vegetables and fruit to these two worthy organizations. No gardening experience is necessary to volunteer!

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit Christian housing ministry that utilizes donor funds and volunteer labor in order to provide affordable housing for the working poor. Parishioners participate through financial contributions and work days.

HAITI MINISTRY
The Haiti Ministry Committee meets regularly to discuss projects and activities that support our Haitian twin, Papaye Normal School, a 3-year teachers' training college. Activities include sending an annual sea container of supplies to the school and coordinating a pilgrimage of OLN members to the school each year. Click here for more information.

​KAIROS PRISON MINISTRY
This interfaith group provides a three day, forty hour weekend retreat to present and share Christ with inmates in maximum security prisons.

ADVOCACY
This group serves as the parish liaison with the Virginia Catholic Conference (VCC). The VCC provides a voice for Catholic Social Teaching in public policy matters and represents the dioceses of Arlington and Richmond.  this ministry educates, advocates social justice issues and encourages all to join the VCC email advocacy network.

MIGRANT MINISTRY
This group mobilizes the Roanoke valley Catholic parishes in June to collect clothing, household, religious and hygiene items for 3,000+ seasonal migrant farm laborers throughout Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

RAM HOUSE
Roanoke Area Ministries (RAM) is a homeless day shelter that provides lunch and a place to shower.  It also provides emergency financial assistance.  Volunteers are needed for front desk, office, clothing closet, and kitchen work. The OLN ministry prepares and serves lunch on the fourth Sunday of every month, as well as on various other days throughout the month.

RESPECT LIFE
This group witnesses to the harm of abortion, prays for its end, and offers an alternate; in a peaceful and respectful manner. they participate in 40 Days for Life, and support the Blue Ridge Women’s center.

NORTH ROANOKE VALLEY HOME
This mission group visits the residents of North Roanoke Valley Home Assisted Living on the third Sunday of the month at 3:00 pm and on the third Wednesday from May through August every month.  We play bingo and provide fellowship and fun.  At. Christmas, the group collects presents for the residents.

Logos is an ecumenical theater company born out of OLN and is comprised of artists and musicians of all ages from the Roanoke Valley.
